Six-time Olympic fencer Peter Westbrook is profiled by CNN in the television special People Count: Passing the Torch. The one-hour show airs Saturday, January 27 at 10:00 pm Eastern Time and repeats at 10:00 pm Pacific Time. Filmed over four years, the story also follows the triumphs and defeats of Peter's students Akhi Spencer-El and Kamara James.
Derek Snyder was featured on ESPN's Scholastic Sports America on Nov. 13. The show also has a web page featuring Derek at ESPN.com.
Watch for the January/February issue of Sports Illustrated for Women. The calendar section will post US Fencing's competition schedule along with other sports, including a blurb about Andrea Ament.
The November issue of Teen Magazine, on newsstands now, features a young fencer! Jasmine McGlade of Northern Colorado Fencers was one of 30 girls who were chosen as finalists for Athlete of the Year chosen from over 5,000 entries for accomplishment in their sport, scholastics and leadership. Congratulations, Jasmine!
Northern Colorado Fencers Aly Rush and Cameron Perry, and the Denver Junior/Cadet Youth NAC, are the subjects of an Oct. 31 feature in the Boulder Daily Camera.
Atlanta radio station KILT, AM 610 will interview U.S. Paralympic Fencing Team member Mario Rodriguez and his coach Mauro Hamza for one full hour during prime time on Nov. 10 or 11.
The current issue of Sports Illustrated for Kids, October's double issue, has lots of fencing tidbits throughout. Profiles of Olympic Fencers are also planned for SI Kids Online.
A neat website called "How Stuff Works" features fencing this month. It's an interesting and long article with some inaccuracies - but also a nice description of how the electronic equipment works.
The Wall Street Journal featured a colorful article on fencing on Sept. 20 on page A8, including quotes from Tamir Bloom, Hungary's Csaba Koves, Rene Roch, and other fencing notables. WSJ Online subscribers can find the article until Oct. 19 at WSJ Online.
Peter Westbrook appeared on the Oprah show and was awarded a $100,000 "Angel" grant on Sept. 18!
